About the COC Song Contest
The COC Song Contest was held for the first time in 1995. That year, COC South Limburg decided to set up their own alternative event after the Netherlands did not participate in the Eurovision Song Contest. During this inaugural edition in Maastricht, Henri in ’t Groen performed the song “Sorry dat ik besta” (“Sorry That I Exist”). He thereby won the very first festival. The winning song, taken from the musical Foxtrot by Annie M.G. Schmidt, addressed the absence of songs about love between people of the same gender and the lack of representation of homosexuality in the music world.
In the years that followed, the festival grew into an annual event with participants from all over the country. The public and media increasingly took notice of the festival. The COC Song Contest has now become the largest event in the Netherlands centred around queer songs.
Show and livestream
The COC Song Contest 2025 will take place at the Theatre in Middelburg. Tickets are available via the festival’s website. For those who cannot attend in person, a livestream will be available on, among other platforms, the YouTube channel of COC Limburg.
