Als onderdeel van onze tentoonstelling Overburden zijn we blij om de Environmental Justice Questions Workshop door kunstenaar en schrijver @harunishere te organiseren. Deze workshop is georganiseerd in samenwerking met @limestone_books_maas
Harun Morrison nodigde een scala aan mensen uit, waaronder activisten, schrijvers, kunstenaars, theoretici, architecten, chef-koks, natuurhistorici en tuinders om vragen met betrekking tot milieurechtvaardigheid voor te stellen die een gesprek kunnen stimuleren. Een selectie van deze vragen zal de basis vormen van deze discursieve workshop. Deelnemers worden uitgenodigd om in kleine groepen van 3-4 personen te werken, gevolgd door een vrije afsluitende discussie.

>>Gratis toegang Deze workshop is onderdeel van de tentoonstelling ‘Overburden -On Extraction And The Shape Of Things To Come’ waarin kunstenaars Alaa Abu Asad, Rachel Bacon, Anastasia Kubrak, Harun Morrison en Miriam Sentler werken tonen die de orde van de natuur niet alleen als een materiële realiteit, maar ook als een culturele taal behandelen. Welke rol spelen kunst en collectieve verbeelding bij het vormgeven van “natuur”, “vooruitgang” of “crisis”? En wat blijft buiten het kader, of is er moeilijk in te herkennen? Ze roepen vragen op over de manieren van kijken die wij als toeschouwers hebben ontwikkeld en hoe we onze wereld zijn gaan begrijpen. Hoe verhoudt dit zich tot winningsprocessen, in het verleden en de nasleep daarvan, zoals de kolenwinning in Zuid-Limburg of de hernieuwbare belofte van lithium?
As part of our exhibition Overburden, we are happy to host the Environmental Justice Questions Workshop by artist and writer @harunishere. This workshop is co-organized with @limestone_books_maas
Harun Morrison invited a range of people, including activists, writers, artworkers, theorists, architects, chefs, natural historians and horticulturalists to propose questions relating to environmental justice that can stimulate conversation. A selection of these questions will form the basis of this discursive workshop. Participants will be invited to work in small groups of 3-4 people followed by a freeform closing discussion.

This workshop is part of the exhibition ‘Overburden -On Extraction And The Shape Of Things To Come’ in which artists Alaa Abu Asad, Rachel Bacon, Anastasia Kubrak, Harun Morrison and Miriam Sentler show works that address the order of nature not only as a material reality, but also as a cultural language. What role does art and collective imagination play in shaping “nature”, “progress” or “crisis”? And what remains outside the frame, or is difficult to recognize within it? They raise questions about the ways of seeing that we, as spectators, have developed and how we have come to understand our world. How does this relate to extractive processes, in the past and its afterlives, such as coal mining in Zuid-Limburg or the renewable promise of lithium?
